In an effort to address rising office vacancy rates and falling office values while reshaping the future of commercial real estate, the Arlington County Board adopted a policy on transforming outdated office buildings into vibrant, multi-use spaces.

Arlington has achieved its goal of 100% renewable electricity use at all County facilities, two years ahead of schedule. The facilities include County-owned buildings, streetlights and traffic signals, leased facilities and the Water Pollution Control Plant. Arlington County has committed to be carbon neutral by 2050 as part of its Community Energy Plan (CEP).

Arlington is one of 122 global cities and counties named a Climate Action Leader by Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) 2022 A-List, and one of just 36 cities in the United States with this distinction. CDP recognized Arlington County for ambition, leadership, and transparency on climate action. Only 12% of cities and counties that were scored in 2022 received an A score.

Arlington County has once again been recognized as a top county for technology performance and innovation. For a fifth year, Arlington was named the No. 1 Digital County in its category in the annual Top Digital Counties Survey.

Arlington has stepped to the summit in the world of walking. The County has been named one of five Walk Friendly Platinum Communities in the U.S. this year, joining an exclusive group comprised of much-larger New York City, Seattle, Portland and San Francisco.
