GRANT Relief Efforts

Arlington's Grant Relief Efforts 2020-2022

COVID-19 hit small businesses hard. Communities across the U.S. worked to provide alternative capital opportunities to those industries most in need of capital, including Arlington.

Arlington’s first grant, GRANT 1.0, was released in the summer of 2020, with GRANT 2.0 following a year-and-a-half later, in the fall of 2021. Both programs were created with a commitment to equity and inclusion, prioritizing hard-to-reach communities and industries in need.

Through GRANT 1.0 and 2.0, Arlington was able to provide $3.74 million dollars in funding to small businesses. In addition, a vast majority (68%) of those funds went to minority- and woman-owned businesses. Additionally, the top three industries awarded — Restaurant and Food Services, Personal Services and Retail — were those industries hardest hit by the pandemic.

BizLaunch continues to offer grant assistance to small businesses via the ReLaunch program.

Industry Impact

GRANT 1.0 and 2.0’s main objective was to distribute funds to industries that were hit the hardest. Through both programs, that same goal was achieved with the majority of distribution having gone to Restaurant and Food Services (42%), Personal Services (30%) and Retail (14%).

Combined Impact

Of the $3.74 million given to 468 Arlington small businesses, 68% of all funding was given to Minority-Owned businesses (37%) and Woman-Owned businesses (31%).

The top 5 industries impacted by Arlington's Grant programs were Restaurant & Food Services, Personal Services, Retail, Health & Medical Services and Arts, Entertainment & Recreation.
