Centrally located in the Washington, D.C. metro region and situated with easy access to the region’s major roadways, Arlington, VA offers easy access to neighboring jurisdictions and locations outside the region, making for an easy commute for your workforce and simple connections with clients and partners. Arlington’s neighborhoods and major corridors are connected by 11 Metrorail stations, more than 100 miles of biking and walking trails, numerous local and regional bus routes and Reagan National Airport (plus two international airports within a 35-mile radius). Wherever you are in Arlington, you have access to multimodal transportation options that can take you to nearby neighborhood coffee shops, faraway global cities and everywhere in between.

Air

Easy Airport Access

Reagan National Airport Arlington is home to Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA), which offers nonstop flights to 95 domestic and five international destinations, and it is easily accessible via Metro, car and a future pedestrian bridge from the National Landing neighborhood.

Arlington easily connects to the globe with two major international airports, each less than 35 miles away. At Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD), you can grab a nonstop flight to 103 domestic and 52 international destinations. Additionally, Baltimore/Washington International Airport (BWI) offers nonstop flights to 90 domestic and 13 international destinations. All are easily accessed via local highways or transit, making it simple to get wherever you need to go.

 

Rail

Metrorail train car interior The Washington Metrorail “Metro” is the second busiest transit rail system in the U.S., serving more than 600,000 customers a day.  Four different Metro lines serve Arlington’s 11 Metro stations, providing residents and workers easy access to downtown Washington, D.C. and the Virginia and Maryland suburbs, including both Reagan National Airport and Dulles International Airport.

Arlington is located minutes from Amtrak stations in Alexandria and Washington, D.C. and is home to the Crystal City Virginia Railway Express station, connecting commuters from Northern Virginia to Arlington, Alexandria and downtown Washington, D.C.

Roads

Bridge decorated with colorful mural When it's time to hit the road, drivers in Arlington have easy access to the region’s major roadways — Routes 66, 395, 495 and the George Washington Memorial Parkway. With Arlington’s long-term commitment to planning and a robust infrastructure program, our local roads are well designed and maintained — allowing easy travel between Arlington’s dense urban corridors, our more suburban neighborhoods, and neighboring cities and counties.

 

Bike and Trail

Man accessing Capital bike share Arlington's vision of an equitable multimodal transportation system means there are plenty of different ways to get wherever you need to go in our community. Biking is an extremely popular way of getting around — and Arlington's 40 miles of dedicated on-street bike lanes and more than 50 miles of multi-use trails make it easy to get around safely and efficiently. Don't have a bike of your own? Grab one from a Capital Bikeshare station, there are about 100 stations around Arlington and more than 600 throughout the region.

But that's not all. Scooters are a great way to get from a Metro station or the office to your front door. Rideshare companies are plentiful. And for those who like to hit the pavement, sidewalks are well-marked, and there are 80 miles of paved walking trails throughout the county that let you connect to anywhere you want to go.
