Spring Arlington Premiere Honors Legacy Award Winners
May 22, 2019 | By Cara O'Donnell
Three longtime and landmark Arlington businesses were honored recently as model businesses in the community by Arlington Economic Development in the annual Legacy Awards presentation. The awards are given annually to Arlington companies that have been leaders or otherwise serve as role models in the Arlington business community. This year, the awards centered on longstanding small businesses that are true partners in the community. They were presented at Arlington Economic Development’s semi-annual Arlington Premiere business reception.
Taking the first Legacy Award honor was community favorite Heidelberg Pastry Shoppe, a full-time European bakery and deli in the Lee Highway area that has been serving Arlingtonians since the mid-70s. The family-owned bakery offers everything from breakfast pastries and distinctive breads to deli sandwiches and gourmet desserts and is most well-known for its steady clientele of repeat customers - many of which have been loyal patrons for more than four decades.
Also honored as a Legacy Award winner was Papillon Cycles. The Columbia Pike business has been a one-stop shop fixture on-the-pike since 1984. Papillon is known not just for bike sales, but for its prompt and expert servicing and even as a gathering place for local bikers.
The third 2019 Legacy Award honoree was Crystal Boutique, a women's clothing store on the southern end of Crystal City that has been providing fashion for nearly fifty years. First opened in 1970, Crystal Boutique has been the shop of choice for discriminating women who need a varied wardrobe and promises its experience "will bring back the joy of shopping."
"All of our Legacy Award winners have truly gone above and beyond in being good role models for Arlington businesses,” said Christina Winn, Director of Business Investment at Arlington Economic Development. “We are very proud of their accomplishments and are thrilled to honor them in this way.”
Arlington Economic Development honors “legacy business” in Arlington each year as part of Business Appreciation Month, highlighting companies who have set examples of success in Arlington’s business community.
