Fun gift wrap

Isn't it time to start planning the annual holiday office party? Pot luck or catered? Games? Gift exchange? And who doesn't love wearing a quirky holiday sweater? Or having a laugh over a clever goofy gift?

Until now, those were the traditions of most holiday office parties. But this year, companies can offer a cool event that fosters innovation, team building and environmental stewardship thanks to an Arlington based creative team. Beth Singer Design offers a unique design-thinking based gift-wrapping experience using everyday discards and recycled materials intended for company-wide fun.

Principals Beth Singer and Howard Smith are always looking for ways to grow their brains so that they have a continuous flow of fresh ideas for their communications design work. One of their favorite techniques is to repurpose everyday materials and assign them an entirely different function—as gift packaging for friends and family. A paper towel roll becomes a receptacle for launching paper fireworks; a mesh bag that once held lemons becomes a bowtie on a gift box; a playing piece from a once-beloved game becomes an alluring cinch on a ribbon. "Even before I use an object for its original purpose, I am thinking about how to re-use it. The simple act of re-imagining what my default brain perceives as junk is my ‘innovation practice,'" says Beth.

See for yourself and get wrapped up in this opportunity that offers much more than a decorative outcome. And yes, you can still wear your favorite outrageous (aka adorable) holiday sweater.
