The Greater Washington region is also a center of international commerce. It has more than 180 embassies and missions, and numerous bilateral business and cultural organizations offering education, business, and trade programs to residents and companies alike.
The region is home to the World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Inter-American Development Bank, and more than 700 foreign-owned companies. With all the international businesses established here, it is no wonder that the region has more than 35 bilateral business groups and chambers of commerce such as the German-American Business Council, British-American Business Association, French-American Chamber of Commerce, and the US-China Business Council. All of these organizations accept members, and their activities range from providing lectures on trade and investments, to lobbying for businesses on behalf of companies, to relaxing networking events on a golf course.
