Small Business Feature: Striking Media

Founded in 2020 by Helen Saks, Striking Media is a full-service media production company that helps organizations tell powerful stories through video.

With a background in television production for the BBC, producing shows such as This Morning, the British equivalent of Good Morning America, Saks incorporates her 25+ years of experience into Striking Media. “Having produced two hours of live television each week, I know that I can handle the most stressful of situations with a calm voice and quick thinking,” says Saks.

She says that her overall goal is to ensure that clients enjoy the production process. “Whether their concern is around script writing or reading a teleprompter, I make sure everything is as easy and fun as possible,” says Saks.

Like many entrepreneurs, Saks wears many hats to keep Striking Media going. “My natural fit is to produce, direct and interview our interviewees. Additionally, as a business owner I oversee all our contracts and lead the business development,” she says.

Of course, starting a business during 2020 was not for the faint of heart; however, Saks had help through one of BizLaunch’s partners, Washington, DC Score. “I connected with an experienced business owner through Score who I’ve spoken to many times to help my business grow. He has been helpful in supporting me as I learn and grow as a business owner,” says Saks.

With Arlington being a dynamic area, for Saks the choice was obvious as to where to locate her business. “I have been overwhelmed by how people want to help and support me as I grow my business. With my previous work with the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, it was clear from the beginning that my business was going to be based in Arlington,” says Saks.
