Arlington Economic Development has named Katharine (Kate) Ange as the new Deputy Director for the department, effective September 5, 2023. An accomplished consultant with more than 27+ years of experience working with local and state governments, regional planning organizations and federal agencies on the advancement of community development efforts, Kate will now bring her skills and expertise to AED. Trained as a city planner, she most recently served as President of Renaissance Planning, a small niche consulting firm that focuses on holistic planning solutions in land use, economic development, urban design and transportation to create cities that work.

Kate brings a wealth of leadership and business development experience to AED. She has led several multi-year planning projects requiring high levels of community engagement and facilitation, most recently in the areas of visioning and strategic planning, place-based economic revitalization and equitable transit-oriented development. After spending years on the road helping communities nationwide, Kate’s shift to the public sector comes with a renewed interest to stay local and make a positive community impact in her own backyard.

Kate holds a Master of Planning in Urban and Environmental Planning from the University of Virginia, and a Bachelor of Arts in Environmental Studies from Rollins College. She has been an Arlington resident since 2009 and lives within walking distance of the infamous Westover Beer Garden. When not working, you can find her walking, hiking, enjoying live music, tending to her garden and the never-ending list of home projects that come with maintaining her 1936 era house.
