ARLINGTON, Va. — Arlington Economic Development is seeking companies interested in expanding business on the global front to apply for consideration in the Dongsheng–Dao Ventures US-China Entrepreneurship Competition for 2016. The U.S. round of competition, which will be held both in Arlington and in Boston, will bring early/seed-stage or growth stage technology companies from around the globe together to pitch their products and services for the chance at cash prizes, significant investments, mentoring and the chance for free office space in one of China’s top accelerators. This is the second year Arlington has served as host for the competition.
“This partnership between Arlington and Dao Ventures/Dongsheng Science and Technology Park has truly been remarkable in fostering entrepreneurial relations between both destinations,” said Victor Hoskins, Director of Arlington Economic Development. “We are thrilled to once again have the chance to showcase the truly remarkable entrepreneurial enterprises being developed here and further enhance the global market opportunities between Arlington and the Chinese market.”
Dongsheng Science and Technology Park in Beijing, located at Zhongguancun, China’s equivalent of Silicon Valley, is one of China’s leading accelerators for technology and environmental companies. It is partnering with Sino-American investment and advisory service firm, Dao Ventures, to bring its Global Entrepreneurship Competition to the U.S. for the second time.
Technology companies in early/seed-stage or growth stage are encouraged to apply for the competition, which is focused on companies looking to expand to China and who may want to entertain exploring operational representation in China. Selected companies will participate in a pitch competition in November, with First Place winners in the first round invited to participate in the final round of competition in Beijing in December.
Participants have the chance to win:
If selected by Dongsheng, the winner from the U.S. competition will receive a $1,500 travel stipend to Beijing plus hotel and meals for the duration of the contest period to participate in the final international competition as the U.S. representative. Contestants will also take part in prospective investment meetings with Chinese investors and receive office space in Dongsheng’s Beijing accelerator and pro bono consulting and mentoring.
Applications are being accepted online and must be received by October 30. Finalists will be chosen by November 2 with pitch presentations taking place November 10.
