Return on Creativity: The Need for Creative Humans in an AI World

Many creative marketers are afraid AI will replace them altogether. How real is this possibility?

Consider the recent headline-grabbing auction of the “Portrait of Edmond Belamy”, an AI generated painting that sold for $432,000. How does an AI artwork sell for that much? The Edmond Belamy work is a great example of how an algorithm predicts what the general market will accept. The work itself is a human guided AI composite based on 15,000 works from the past six centuries.

Given how much human input is involved in creating even famous AI artworks, perhaps replacing creatives and marketers is a big overhyped machine learning trend. Instead, machine learning will assist creative marketers and help them become more productive and better at communicating their message.
