Ten Northern Virginia jurisdictions band together to form Northern VA Economic Development Alliance

In a move to formalize the regional partnerships and collaborations throughout Northern Virginia’s economic development organizations, a total of 10 jurisdictions from Northern Virginia, including Arlington, are now banding together to form the Northern Virginia Economic Development Alliance. The Memorandum of Understanding for the regional partnership, formalized earlier this month, was born from Arlington’s successful partnership with the City of Alexandria, as well as Fairfax and Loudoun Counties, on the original bid for Amazon HQ2, which will locate in Arlington.

In the last few years, Arlington has led the way in collaborating with regional partners at events like CES, SXSW, Collision and Select USA, working together to showcase local companies, network with international leaders and demonstrate the highlights of Northern Virginia’s workforce and technology-related resources. The “stronger together” mantra gained even more traction following the successful HQ2 bid, which put not only Arlington, but the entire Northern Virginia region on the radar of site selectors and other companies interested in locating in areas near the new Amazon headquarters.

The following jurisdictions are set to take part in the alliance:

  • Alexandria Economic Development Partnership
  • Arlington County
  • City of Fairfax
  • Fairfax County Economic Development Authority
  • City of Falls Church
  • Fauquier County
  • Loudoun County
  • City of Manassas
  • City of Manassas Park
  • Prince William County Department of Economic Development
As part of the agreement, the local economic development organizations will all pledge to work together to market and develop the region as a key location for business and investment. While they’ll all still work independently on specific bids, the MOU opens the door to easier regional collaboration and partnership.
