Growing a successful business is not an easy task. There are agencies, organizations and businesses dedicated to the success of the small business owner. In the Northern Virginia area, small business owners have access to SCORE, SBDC, EDA, SBA and a host of other acronyms. But have you heard of the SBSD?
The Virginia Department of Small Business and Supplier Diversity (SBSD) is the state agency dedicated to helping Virginia’s small, women- and minority-owned businesses (SWaMs) in Virginia’s procurement opportunities. Its services are now available to local businesses through AED's BizLaunch program.
How do we help SWaMs?
- We help with certification. SBSD is responsible for the administration of two certification programs: the Small, Women- and Minority-owned Businesses under Virginia’s “SWaM” Procurement Initiative and the federal U.S. Department of Transportation’s Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (“DBE”) Program.
- We help with financing. The Virginia Small Business Finance Authority (VSBFA) is the Commonwealth of Virginia's economic development and small business financing arm. We help Virginia's existing businesses and those businesses that are seeking to come to Virginia through our extensive portfolio of financing programs.
- We help with business development and outreach. We provide technical assistance through the Virginia Business Information Center; guidance and one-on-one counseling sessions with the many Business Services Managers throughout the Commonwealth; and connect you with other resource providers in your region.
If you are a small, women- and minority-owned businesses, then get to know SBSD and let us help you grow your business.
