Recognizing Diversity and Inclusion During Business Appreciation Month

It’s well known that Arlington, VA is a trailblazer when it comes to smart growth, urban planning and sustainability but did you know that it’s a leader in diversity and inclusion (D&I) as well?  Business Appreciation Month (BAM) is celebrated in May every year and so this year we wanted to shine a light on the many diverse and inclusive companies that call Arlington home.  We appreciate all the companies that make this a great place to live, work, and play, and are going to be featuring them on our blog and on our social media platforms throughout the month!

In anticipation of BAM, we did a deep dive into Arlington’s D&I practices and accomplishments and, perhaps it comes as no surprise to some, we really have a lot going on in this department!  Arlington County’s Vision is to be “a diverse and inclusive world-class urban community…where people unite to form a caring, learning, participating, sustainable community in which each person is important.” From the ground level – the people who live, work and play in Arlington – all the way up to the policies and programs supported by our government and schools, Arlington is a diverse and inclusive community and has been recognized as such, including by the Human Rights Commission for its LGBTQ policies. It’s no wonder then that we have managed to attract companies with similar values, who are attracted to our community for this reason and who show commitment to D&I through their own internal practices, community engagement and in some cases, organizational missions.

Stay tuned for our coverage including interviews with local business owners, blogs about relevant resources, and shout outs to the great companies in Arlington who are getting recognized for their good work on the D&I front. Last but not least, we will wrap up BAM by announcing the winners of the 2018 Legacy Awards in Diversity & Inclusion at the Arlington Premiere on May 24th. We hope to see you there!
