Recently I had the pleasure of being featured on Through the Noise, an international podcast produced in Arlington that hosts lively conversations with thought leaders in the nonprofit community.
Through the Noise is led by local hosts Ernesto Gluecksmann and Blake Althen. I had the pleasure to speak with the hosts on the podcast about how economic development works and specifically what are the opportunities new businesses and nonprofits bring to a community. During this week’s episode I also describe (in under an hour) the process of starting a business or nonprofit in Arlington. We speak in an interactive way about what you should think about as a new business or nonprofit, what are the pitfalls and what are the best practices.
Starting a business or nonprofit is not for the faint of heart. There are peaks and valleys as you launch and grow your organization. However, in the podcast and each and every day we speak in detail on the benefits of planning, and how developing a feasible strategy really can make the difference between long-term success and failure.
I believe that strategic planning is an extremely important aspect in the life cycle of not only a business but a nonprofit as well. Many features are similar to both disciplines although they are on different platforms to execute.
