The transportation projects along Columbia Pike in Arlington are having an impact on the corridor, and Arlington Economic Development’s BizLaunch team have been working with local businesses and the Columbia Pike Revitalization Organization (CPRO) to help those businesses explore different ways they can work to overcome some of the challenges from the Columbia Pike Transportation Project.
This work is part of the Columbia Pike multimodal project that will make the Pike a safer, more accessible route for all users. Arlington is transforming this main thoroughfare into a complete street that balances all modes of travel and supports high-quality, high-frequency transit service. In addition to visible improvements to the road, extensive work will occur below the roadway – to replace aging and leak-prone water and sewer pipes and to bury existing overhead utilities underground.
CPRO and AED, along with County Board and senior County staff members have visited business owners impacted by the project in recent weeks to hear their concerns of lack of accessibility as a result of the project’s traffic patterns. Additionally, BizLaunch and BizLaunch en Español programs, in collaboration with County transportation staff, along with the CPRO, are leading efforts to assist businesses located in the Pike Plaza. Recent workshops have helped businesses meet with experts who specialize in strategic planning and change management on the Pike.
BizLaunch leaders also want individual business owners along the Pike to know its counselors are available to sit down with anyone impacted by the situation to help on a one-on-one basis. BizLaunch also has additional resources available online for business owners to help with business strategy, planning and more.Topic: BizLaunch, Economic Update
