Even an impending blizzard couldn't dampen the mood at 1776 in Crystal City this morning, as Governor Terry McAuliffe stopped by to announce that Silicon Valley-based Shift Technologies would be opening its East Coast operations in Arlington. Shift, an online, peer-to-peer, marketplace for buying and selling used cars, will invest $20 million to establish its Arlington base. The project will create 100 new high-tech jobs and is a direct result of the Governor’s meeting with company officials in California during his West Coast Marketing Mission in September 2015.
A core team of engineers will be among the first employees hired at the new Arlington location to help build East Coast operations, and Shift company leaders commented that Arlington's highly-skilled workforce was a key factor in their decision to locate here.
