An introduction from Arlington Economic Development has led to a strategic alliance between the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority and startup incubator 1776 that will explore and encourage technologies for enhancing the passenger experience in airports and related businesses. Under a marketing and collaboration agreement, 1776 and MWAA will identify and mentor entrepreneurial firms that are pursuing new technologies created to improve air travel and its efficiency and convenience.
AED staff brought the two parties together last summer to discuss innovation and ways the two organizations could really work together to effect change in the industry and improve the competitiveness of MWAA and the region. As a result of that meeting and this new alliance, 1776 Managing Director David Zipper called its work with Arlington “1776’s most success public sector partnership in the world.”
It’s an excellent example of the behind-the-scenes work AED staff does every day to foster partnerships and initiatives for companies in Arlington and considering relocating to the area. Arlington’s unique entrepreneurial culture and its proximity to major entities allow for opportunities for partnerships and projects that simply aren’t possible in other regions.
We’re proud to be a catalyst that helps to foster exciting partnerships like this one. Congratulations to MWAA and 1776, and we’re looking forward to the results of this alliance.Topic: BIG Update
