In Memoriam. 1969-2015
Generosity. The act of giving without expecting anything in return. If you looked up the word generous in the dictionary you would see the smiling face of Torrey Hairston.
Torrey departed this earth on April 28, 2015; however, his generous spirit lives on through his many colleagues at Arlington County Government, his loyal friends (of which there are many!), the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, his exceedingly lovely parents and beautiful children: Zoe, Caleb and Jonah. Torrey lived for his children and would do anything for them. From sewing dresses for Zoe, to coaching the girls basketball team, to helping his son launch a wallet business, Torrey embraced fatherhood. He had a list of tips at the ready: from potty training, to nap time, to learning to ride a bike, Torrey loved to share and tell stories regarding the many joys of parenthood.
Torrey excelled in making you feel wonderful, and that you were his best friend forever (BFF). He had a lot of BFFs, and they all have amazing stories to tell of his generosity. Torrey’s infectious laugh kept us in stiches, and his numerous attempts to make us all millionaires will be fondly remembered. Although it can be said, we haven’t given up our day jobs yet.
We admired Torrey’s daily work out regime. It was natural to forego sweets for salads, and tough exercise for any amount of couch potato. Torrey thought nothing of giving his all to help the business community from Ben’s Chili Bowl to Boeing-he worked hard to support the community he loved so faithfully. Torrey made friends wherever he went.
He will be truly missed.
Here are tips that Torrey shared with us last year to live by:
Thank you, Torrey Hairston. We will do all the above.
May you rest in peace, and your giving nature live on in all of us.Topic:
