NOVA headed north to Toronto May 20-23 to take on the technology world at Collision Conference 2019. The Arlington Economic Development (AED) team partnered with Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP), Alexandria Economic Development Partnership (AEDP) and Prince William Economic Development to showcase the business climate, quality of life and tech workforce pipeline that will carry northern Virginia’s economy over the coming decade.
Collision Conference is one of North America’s fastest growing technology conferences. It features panel discussions, pitch competitions and mentoring sessions for attending companies on the cusp of growth. This year’s event in Toronto attracted nearly 30,000 technologists and 800 companies from around North America and the globe.
‘Innovation Lives Here’ was the moniker that helped land Amazon’s HQ2, and it was under this banner that our partnering jurisdictions promoted the region’s many benefits. It was also in this light that the teams brought and showcased 18 companies from across the region; seven of these companies call Arlington home. Lovelytics, EdConnective, Service Robotics & Technologies, Koios, Guardian Savings, Intuidot and 4Stay all presented their company’s products and paths for growth while meeting with dozens of investors that could inject capital into the Arlington economy in the coming years.
AED is always on the lookout for trade shows and conferences that provide layers of benefits for Arlington County. Collision Conference checks multiple boxes and allows some of the greatest return on investment. It is an environment where the AED business development team can scout and meet with companies from around the globe that could one day operate in Arlington and bring the County additional revenue through commercial property taxes. It is also an environment that is ripe for promoting the County’s technology assets to a wide range of influencers, from potential residents to investors. The show’s panels and discussions also provide great content and knowledge enhancement for our team, which in turn allows us to best anticipate the coming changes in the technology economy. And most importantly, it is an arena where we can showcase our companies so that they, as the backbone of our existing and future economy, can promote themselves, raise capital and grow in Arlington for years to come.Topic: BIG Update, Economic Update
