Named for its famous five-sided military hub, Pentagon City is the region's longstanding shopping capital with its dual anchors: the newly-renovated Fashion Centre at Pentagon City and the open-air Pentagon Row. As the bustling food hall and circling tour buses tell you, the Fashion Centre's 900,000 SF of retail is loved by locals and tourists alike. Right next door, Pentagon Row packages quality dining alongside home goods retailers in a town center setting with its multi-use outdoor promenade.
Joining these anchors will be the new headquarters of technology giant Amazon, who is investing more than $2 billion in the surrounding area after their November 2018 announcement. Straddling Crystal City and Pentagon City, the company will create at least 25,000 high-wage jobs over the next 12 years.
Even before Amazon's arrival, Pentagon City is evolving into a balanced neighborhood with the recent opening of more than 700 residential units and another 1,200 units approved and ready for construction. Buoyed by the new residential base, Whole Foods entered the market along with several regional and national restaurant chains.
